Highlighted Graduate Degrees for Student Veterans
The following programs best represent the goals of Syracuse University to bridge the military and civilian gap, enable veterans to accelerate their education, increase flexibility and allow stackable degrees, and allow some military training to count toward course requirements. While these degrees have been designed with veterans in mind, all required classes are fully integrated between veterans and non-veterans, and we encourage veterans to consider all of the degrees offered by Syracuse University.
MBA for Veterans
The Master of Business Administration program offered by the Whitman School of Management on the SU campus provides a comprehensive training in business that allows veterans to leverage their military training to take the next big step in their careers. This accelerated 14-month on-campus program allows students to become leading innovators and entrepreneurs in the field of business. The MBA curriculum focused on entrepreneurship will cover all of the essential tools of business, including accounting, economics, finance, marketing and organizational behavior from a managerial perspective. The three principles highlighted by the MBA for Veterans are leadership, entrepreneurship, and innovation.The application deadline for the MBA for Veterans is December 31st and the program starts in late May. Because our research finds that many veterans and military families would like to earn a business degree but are not able to relocate, MBA@Syracuse will allow veterans to earn an MBA from the Whitman School of Management from anywhere in the world within two years. Applications for MBA@Syracuse are accepted all year on a rolling basis. Find out more
Executive Master of Public Administration
The Executive Master of Public Administration degree is designed to train mid-career professionals in management skills for the public and nonprofit sectors. The goal of the curriculum is to create the next leaders of the global community.
Admission to the Executive Master of Public Administration program requires seven years of mid-level professional experience, including military service. The program is completed in 30 credits taken full or part-time. If taken full-time, the EMPA can be completed in one calendar year. A GRE score is not required for admission. Find out more
Master of Social Science
The Master of Social Science (MSSc) is an interdisciplinary approach to the broad problems of social science based on comparisons of the world’s major cultural areas. The program is ideal for student veterans not able to relocate to Syracuse because it only requires a two-week residency on campus in New York and students can start classes at any time of the year. Many active military officers (30-40% of the class) also seek out this degree to advance their careers. The degree is particularly well suited for non-government organization officials, teachers, military personnel, government officers, journalists, and corporate executives involved in international business. Master of Science in Entrepreneurship
The Masters in Entrepreneurship program from the Whitman School of Management prepares students to become leaders of one of 2.4 million veteran-owned businesses employing 5.8 million people. The MSE offers four focus areas: Social, Corporate, Family Business, and New Ventures. Research finds veterans are much more likely to be self-employed. Masters in Information Management, Masters in Telecommunications and Network Management
The iSchool of Syracuse University was ranked No. 1 in best online graduate degree programs in computer information technology for veterans by U.S. News and World Report. The school offers Masters degrees in Information Management, Telecommunications and Network Management, and Information Management for Executives. These cutting-edge programs build on military and professional experience to prepare students to manage in the information industry.
These programs from the iSchool can be taken fully online or in person. Understanding the challenges faced by veteran students, the iSchool strives to offer as much flexibility as possible. Student veterans can take up to seven years to complete a program of study at their own pace, switching between full-time and part-time status at any time. Read more
Masters in Sport Venue & Event Management
A Master of Science degree in Sport Venue and Event Management (SVEM) provides training areas such as stadium management, event production and programming, and venue hospitality. Unlike many broad-based sports management programs, the SVEM provides a specific curriculum designed to helps students succeed in a high competition market.
The SVEM program leverages corporate partnerships to provide strong practical career training and delivers high-quality instruction in small classrooms with personalized attention. Further, SVEM program allows veterans to translate their logistics experiences and skills into event and sport venue management. Students will study topics including management, marketing, finance, events, and strategy as they relate to the sports industry. Find out more
Online MS in Engineering Management
The L.C. Smith College of Engineering & Computer Science offers a Masters degree in Engineering Management. Students will build a strong foundation in both engineering and management, then choose a technical specialization to enhance their portfolio. This Masters provides the veterans the flexibility to do the program remotely and leverage both their military and professional experiences to advance their skills and careers.
This fully online program can be completed anywhere in the world and offers veterans a tuition discount of up to 20%, in addition to other benefits. Find out more
iSchool Certificates of Advanced Studies
The iSchool offers Certificates in Advanced Study for several exciting areas of Information Technology. These include Cultural Heritage Preservation, Data Science, e-Government Management and Leadership, Information Security Management, Information Systems and Telecommunications, and School Media. These fully accredited, graduate level courses are taught by the same professors as the masters and doctoral programs. They can also be transferred into Masters degree programs. Find out more
