Student Veterans Organization Mission
Our mission is to provide information resources and advocacy in support of all Syracuse University student veterans and to assist them toward graduation. The organization aims to increase awareness of and solutions to student veterans educational matters. Organizational members also actively participate on campus as well as within the Syracuse community. Syracuse University students, faculty members, and alumni with veteran status are always welcome.
Location / Amenities
We are located in Room 310, 700 University Ave., home to our own veterans lounge on Syracuse University’s main campus. We are also within walking distance of the Syracuse VA, a regional VA hospital.
Amenities in the lounge include: three computers with internet access, free printing, workspaces, reclining and other couches/chairs, television with cable, full refrigerator/freezer, microwave, an area to store and eat your lunch, Keurig coffee maker, as well as a student veteran- run snack shack with proceeds deposited to our own student account.
Our “Real Veterans Wear Orange” t-shirts (short-sleeve and long-sleeve) are sold in our lounge as well as the Syracuse University Bookstore with proceeds deposited to our own student account.
The student veterans also manage a book exchange library in our lounge, cutting costs for required books for many core-level courses.
Student veterans are always available for peer-to-peer mentorship with academics and services available on campus.
Upon completion of studies at Syracuse University, student veterans will be awarded a Red, White, and Blue Honor Cord which may be worn at graduation signifying status as a graduating student veteran.
*Our student account is maintained by our SVA chapter organization officials and proceeds are used for required resources necessary to the success of student veterans on campus to help them achieve their goal of graduation.
Syracuse University is a participant in the Veterans Administration’s “Veterans Success on Campus” program, with a full-time counselor on campus in Room 204 at the Hoople building.
On Tuesdays, Syracuse University has a New York State Division of Veterans’ Affairs counselor located in our lounge who works on VA claims and appeals.
