OVMA Undergraduate Internship Award

The Office of Veteran and Military Affairs (OVMA) Student Veteran Undergraduate Internship Award provides financial assistance to undergraduate student veterans at Syracuse University during the summer semester.

About:

OVMA established the Internship Award to eliminate the financial barriers that impede student veterans from participating in summer internships. This is a need-based award, issued on a first-come, first-served basis, based on successful completion of the application requirements. Award is based on evaluating how the funds requested impact the student veteran’s ability to participate in the internship. Funding requests for the Internship Award cannot exceed $5,000.

Internship Award Overview:

The Internship Award is intended to cover the cost for the following:

👉🏽 Option 1: Covers the cost of 1-internship credit hour

  • Funding to pay for the cost of 1-internship credit hour
  • Credit may or may not be a requirement by the employer as a condition for participating in the internship

👉🏽 Option 2: Covers travel and living expenses

  • Funding required for travel and living expenses incurred as part of participating in the internship to include internship-related travel, accommodations, living expenses, and required materials
  • Funding shall not be used to pay salaries or to purchase major equipment/technology that will become the possession of the applicant after completion of the internship

👉🏽 Option 3: Covers Options 1 & 2

  • Funding to pay for the cost of 1-internship credit hour AND travel and living expenses

Eligibility & Requirements:

  • Open to undergraduate student veterans at Syracuse University
  • Credit-based internships must be approved by the student veteran’s school/college
  • Funding requests for travel and living expenses requires a detailed explanation anticipated expenses (i.e. housing, transportation, food, supplies, other) and how the applicant estimated these these expenses, to be completed as part of the Internship Award Application
  • Only those student veterans who have completed the Internship Award Application and Handshake profile, and uploaded their resume to Handshake will be considered
  • Living and travel expenses requested in the application will be reviewed and awarded by the Office of Financial Aid
  • Must provide an email to Veteran Career Services confirming the internship offer and proof of completion of an internship to receive the award
  • There may be financial aid implications if enrolled in courses during the summer semester(s)
  • Can receive the award only once
